What is Road to Recovery?

You have probably heard the expression "time heals all wounds."  Unfortunately, it isn't true.  People sometimes struggle with hurts from 30 or 40 years ago.  The truth is - time often makes things worse.  Wounds that are left untended only get worse.  Time only extends the pain if the problem isn't dealt with.

What we need is a program to help us overcome our hurts, habits and hang-ups. Road to Recovery is that kind of program.  Based on the Bible rather than psychological theory, this recovery program has transformed literally thousands of lives.

Most people are familiar with the classic 12 step program of Alcoholic's Anonymous and other groups.  While undoubtedly many lives have been helped through the twelve steps, there has always been a kind of  vagueness about God (your "Higher Power").   The Bible does tell us what  God has to say about "recovery."  For instance, the principles of recovery, and even their logical order, were given by Christ in his most famous message, the Sermon on the Mount.

When Jesus taught the Sermon on the Mount, He began by stating " Eight Ways to Be Happy."  Today we call them the Beatitudes.   From a conventional viewpoint, most of these statements didn't make sense.   They sounded like contradictions.  But when you fully understand what Jesus is saying, you'll realize that these eight principles are God's road to recovery.

The purpose of Northcliffe's Road to Recovery ministry is to share, learn, help, and celebrate God's healing power in our lives through the "8 Recovery Principles." This experience allows us to be changed. By working and applying these Biblical principles, we begin to grow spiritually. We become free from our addictive, compulsive and dysfunctional behaviors. This freedom creates peace, serenity, joy and most importantly, a stronger personal relationship with God and others. As we progress through the program we discover our personal, loving and forgiving Higher Power - Jesus Christ, the one and only true Higher Power.

Things We Are:

Things We Are Not:

Celebrate Recovery Small Groups Can:

- Provide you a safe place to share your experiences, strengths and hopes with others who are going through the "Principles" in a Christ-centered recovery.

- Provide you a leader who has gone through a similar hurt, hang-up, or habit that will facilitate the group as it focuses on a particular step each week.

- Provide you with the opportunity to find an accountability partner and/or sponsor.

- Encourage you to attend other recovery meetings held throughout the week, if available.

Celebrate Recovery Small Groups Will not:

- Attempt to offer any professional clinical advice.  Our leaders are not counselors. We will provide you with a list of approved counseling referrals.

- Allow its members to attempt to 'fix' one another.

RECOVERY PRINCIPLES

R =

Principle 1
Realize I'm not God; I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and my life is unmanageable.

E =

Principle 2
Earnestly believe that God exists, that I matter to him, and that he has the power to help me recover.

C =

Principle 3
Consciously choose to commit all my life and will to Christ's care and control.

O =

Principle 4
Openly examine and confess my faults to God, to myself, and to myself, to God, and to someone I trust.

V =

Principle 5
Voluntarily submit to every change God wants to make in my life and humbly ask Him to remove my character defects.

E =

Principle 6
Evaluate all my relationships; Offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me and make amends for harm I've done to others except when to do so would harm them or others.

R =

Principle 7
Reserve a daily time with God for self examination, Bible readings and prayer in order to know God and His will for my life and to gain the power to follow His will.

Y =

Principle 8
Yield myself to God to be used to bring this Good News to others, both by my example and by my words.
